about

Non Bossy Posse ‘25 Years On Remixed’ is a rampant rebel rousing techno set remixed from recordings from seminal Sydney ‘Agit-Techno’ band Non Bossy Posse (NBP) remixed from the early to mid 90s into 2020. NBP were a regular at Vibe Tribe events in the early to mid 90’s and were about to reform to play a Vibe Tribe reunion event in Sydney.

A set was being prepared for the Vibe tribe 25 years on event that was meant to be on April 4th 2020 that had to be postponed due to the Corona Virus crisis. This remix album is part of the set that was to include live analogue and digital electronic machines played by members of the band.

An archive of DAT recordings was unearthed in about 2018 that lead to the “Still Non Bossy after all these years” release, Non Bossy Posse 25 Years On Remix collection continues on a journey of extracting and building on the unique magical essence of NBP with their fusion of early Goa sounds, Punk, Techno, Break-beat and Acid styles.

Tracks on the collection are remixed and recreated and loops from original NBP recordings remixed and expanded, the elixir of NBP fusion is extended into the now from the ingredients of punk, early goa, acid, techno and breakbeat. Samples and field recordings are sourced to weave a musical tapestry of resistance and calls for people power revolution.

The album kicks in with ‘Gatecrashers from Hell’ a track containing a recording from the 1995 Sydney Park Vibe Tribe free rave called ‘Freequency’. The cops clashed with partygoers at the party and a dancefloor riot ensued before the cops retreated with the generator, acoustic drums consequently took party goers through the night.
Track 2 Babylon is rebuilt and peppered with samples of the original track.

In the early 90’s NBP drew inspiration from the anarchist philosophies of UK punk band, Crass, a remix of ‘Do they owe us a living?’ from their 1978 ‘The Feeding of the 5000’ release appears on this collection fusing this anarcho punk classic with NBP style banging Doof.

Australia’s colonial holocaust is challenged and indigenous Australia’s survival celebrated with a remix of NBPs Indigenous track and The Warumpi Band’s "Blackfella/Whitefella" (1985). This inspiring track was remixed by NBP in the late 90s with the track “Stand Up” ( Activista album ). The track is given a 2020 high energy techno remix on this release.
Many other moments from the NBP back catalogue are remixed and re synthesized in this 13 track release.
Just for a laugh Skippy the Doof kangaroo is remixed plus a remix of NBP’s ‘Together’ with Naomi Klein’s March 2020’ disaster capitalism YouTube seminar, and last but not least the hilarious ‘Birth of Doof’ story is told to a stomping techno track. Hopefully see some of you at the rescheduled Vibe Tribe party post this pandemic.

The Addison Road Community Organisation in Marrickville, Sydney has responded to the COVID-19 crisis by extending its food security program and Food Pantry operations with a new Emergency Food Preparedness and Response Centre.
