about

This music was remixed from a rehearsal jam by Non Bossy Posse on
Gadigal land, Eora on the night before the Bob Moog Aniversary Picnic in Sydney
Park on Sunday June 25th 2023. The Jam involving a banquet of analogue and
digital hardware was recorded with a Presonus studio mixer that
enabled separate channels to be recorded, these stems were remixed and
edited in Abelton Live.

Non Bossy Posse was formed in the DIY crucible of Sydney’s early 90’s
underground. Anarcho punk collided with Techno machine music and
Doof was born. Jellyheads ran an anarchist warehouse and the Vibe Tribe
was putting on free parties. Joyous, passionate and chaotic, Non Bossy
Posse’s music was freewheeling and full of Aussie larrikinism.
Their first release was the 1993 cult cassette album, Saboteurs Of The
Big Daddy Mind Fuck. Recorded live at squatted free parties, it features
their classic unsynchronised, anti-authoritarian approach to beat driven
protest music.

Themes like indigenous rights, anti capitalism, eco-feminism were united
by a finger-triggered, bass heavy driving rhythm. NBP started calling this
beat ‘the doof’ after a jam manifested the famous noise complaint that led
to the word ‘Doof’ in Sydney when an irate German woman yelled at the
door of the house “What is this Doof, Doof, Doof all night long, it is not music?” The word stuck and gradually spread to encompass a genre.

Over the next five years NBP played many gigs in warehouses, parks, and
beaches. They added energy and sonic inspiration to protests, festivals
and community fundraising events. Their late 90’s second album was called Activista. Some members went on to form Organarchy Sound System which became an umbrella name for projects from various members of the band.
Non Bossy Posse had last played in 2004 at Graffiti Hall of Fame at an Organarchy CD launch then had a 19 year hiatus before reforming for the Vibe Tribe reunion event called Re-ignite on March 4th 2023 at the Bridge Hotel in Sydney. Then in June 2023 the band played at a free daytime event in Sydney Park, The Bob Moog 30th Aniversary in Electronic Music Picnic.

Organarchy ¾ of Non Bossy Posse have also returned to playing live in 2022/3 playing at Woytophia, Glitch at Sydnenham Green, The Clan Analogue 303 Compilation launch, Raveolution at Atarmon, Tortuga Studios and the Amplify exhibition launch at Tin Sheds Gallery in Newtown.
